Elecom introduces durable silicone USB-C cables with improved handling and eco-friendly design

Elecom launches flexible, tangle-resistant USB Type-C cables with enhanced bend resistance, supporting up to 100W power delivery and eco-conscious materials, set to go on sale in Japan this August.

Elecom has launched a pair of USB Type-C cables built around soft silicone insulation, positioning them as a tidier, more flexible option for charging and everyday data transfer. The company said the new set goes on sale from late August in Japan and is being offered in matching pairs to keep desk setups more consistent.

The cables are available in 1-metre and 2-metre versions, with black and white finishes. Elecom says the silicone jacket is designed to reduce tangling and improve handling, while third-party testing indicates resistance to about 90,000 bends. That places the product in the same durability-focused segment as some of the company’s other Type-C lines, including shorter silicone models already sold individually.

In practical terms, the cables support USB Power Delivery at up to 100W, or 20V/5A, which is enough for many laptops as well as phones, tablets and portable batteries that accept USB-C charging. They also support data transfer at up to 480Mbps, meaning they are based on USB 2.0-era Hi-Speed USB rather than faster data standards. Cable thickness is listed at roughly 4.2mm for the 1-metre model and 4.3mm for the 2-metre version.

Elecom also says the cables use a two-layer shielding structure to reduce interference, along with flame-retardant materials. The connector area includes gold-plated pins and aluminium detailing, and the products meet the company’s THINK ECOLOGY standards as well as the EU RoHS directive covering 10 substances. Pricing starts at ¥1,870 for the 1-metre set, rising to ¥2,380 for the 2-metre version.
