Elecom's new compact chargers feature PPS support and GaN II Plus for faster, safer charging

Elecom expands its compact charging range with new dual-port USB Type-C AC chargers featuring PPS support, GaN II Plus technology, and unique Shiro-chan design, set to go on sale in September for domestic Japanese consumers.

Elecom is preparing to widen its compact charging range with two USB Type-C AC chargers that each carry dual ports and are due to go on sale in mid-September. The line-up includes 20W and 30W versions, each offered in the company’s “Shiro-chan” design and in white, with the products aimed at routine charging for phones, wireless earphones and tablets. According to Elecom’s product pages and the company’s announcement carried by ASCII, the 20W models are priced at ¥2,680 and the 30W versions at ¥3,380. The company also says the chargers are intended to be easy to carry, thanks to foldable plugs and a compact body.

The 20W charger supports USB Power Delivery and can deliver up to 20W from a single port, while shared use of both ports is capped at 15W in total. Elecom positions that specification as suitable for everyday devices rather than higher-demand hardware. The 30W model adds PPS support, allowing finer control of voltage for compatible devices, and can supply up to 30W from one port; when both ports are in use, output is split between a 20W Type-C port and a 10W Type-C port. Elecom’s product information also says the 30W version uses GaN II Plus to improve power efficiency and Thermal Protection to monitor temperature during use.

Both chargers are compliant with Japan’s PSE safety requirements and are described by Elecom as having undergone its own safety tests. They are for domestic use in Japan only, and no charging cable is included, so users will need to supply their own. The company’s published dimensions place the 20W model at about 40 × 29 × 33mm and 41g, while the 30W version measures roughly 47.5 × 29 × 36mm and weighs about 62g.
