Elecom has launched a compact USB-C docking station featuring a large rotary dial and programmable buttons, offering expanded connectivity and macro control for productivity and creative tasks, with availability in Japan from October.
Elecom has unveiled a USB-C docking station that tries to do more than expand laptop connectivity. The DST-L080BPBK combines the usual hub functions with a large rotary dial and four programmable buttons, turning the dock into a compact desktop control surface as well as a port hub.
According to Elecom’s product page, the unit measures 74 x 87 x 59 mm and weighs about 250 g, so it remains relatively small despite the extra controls. The top panel places the dial beside the buttons, all of which can be customised through the company’s Mouse Assistant software. Elecom says the controls can be assigned to shortcuts and other common actions, making the dock useful for media playback, productivity work and creative applications.
The connectivity set is broad for a device of this size. Elecom lists one USB Type-C port and two USB Type-A ports, each with data transfer speeds of up to 5 Gbps. The dock connects upstream through USB Type-C and includes a separate USB Type-C Power Delivery port rated for up to 100 W input and 90 W output, which allows compatible laptops to charge through the dock while in use. The product also includes HDMI, SD and microSD card slots, Gigabit Ethernet and a 3.5 mm audio jack. The HDMI output supports up to 4K resolution at 60Hz.
Japanese technology outlets including Hermitage Akihabara and Internet Watch reported that the programmable controls can be mapped to functions such as shortcuts, text input, camera toggles and volume adjustment. That gives the device a more specific role than a conventional hub, particularly for users who rely on repeated commands throughout the day. Elecom appears to be pitching the dock as a hybrid accessory: part expansion dock, part macro controller.
Compatibility is listed for Windows 10, Windows 11 and macOS Tahoe 26. Elecom says the DST-L080BPBK will go on sale in Japan in early October at a price of ¥13,728, while some Japanese retail reports put the launch price at ¥10,980 including tax. So far, the company has not announced sales outside Japan, leaving the dock’s wider availability uncertain.
