Google has rolled out a major software update for the Pixel Buds Pro 2, enhancing noise cancellation, voice controls, and translation capabilities as the earbuds continue to evolve into a versatile platform into 2026.
Google is giving the Pixel Buds Pro 2 a fresh software lift heading into 2026, adding features that make the 2024 earbuds feel less like a finished product and more like a platform still being developed. The update package centres on better noise cancellation, more capable voice controls and improved translation, while Google also appears committed to keeping the model on sale alongside newer additions rather than replacing it immediately.
That matters because the Pixel Buds Pro 2 have already built a strong reputation on sound quality and comfort. The earbuds were well received at launch, with active noise cancellation, battery life and spatial audio among the most praised features. Google’s latest additions, including Dynamic ANC, Gemini-powered audio control and a revamped Live Translate mode, are designed to strengthen that position rather than redraw it.
According to Android Central and other reporting on the update, Dynamic ANC is intended to keep noise blocking effective even when the fit changes during use. Google is also adding Adaptive Audio, which adjusts volume and noise cancellation according to the environment, plus Loud Noise Protection to blunt sudden spikes in sound. Head gestures are being introduced as well, allowing users to accept or reject calls and texts without touching the earbuds or phone.
The software changes go beyond listening quality. Google is expanding Gemini integration so users can issue more natural voice commands, while an enhanced Live Translate feature is said to support more than 70 languages in near real time. Additional reporting from PhoneArena says Gemini Live is also being improved for clearer voice interaction in noisy settings. Android Central has also reported that Pixel Watch integration can pause playback and mute notifications during sleep detection, adding a small but practical automation layer.
There is still a hardware angle. The Pixel Buds Pro 2 remain the premium option in Google’s range and were originally priced at $229. Amazon has cut that to $189, while other retailers have also discounted the earbuds, including a Walmart listing at $169.99 for the Hazel model, according to PhoneArena. Google has also introduced a new Olive colour and, in separate reporting, a Moonstone finish, giving buyers a few more options as the company extends the life of the model rather than rushing to a direct replacement.
