GuliKit has introduced a compact, cost-effective portable dock for the Switch 2, addressing the need for a more travel-friendly alternative to Nintendo’s bulky original setup, with added versatility and support for 4K output.
GuliKit’s portable dock for the Switch 2 is aimed at a clear problem: Nintendo’s own dock is fine for a living room, but awkward for travel. The Verge’s hands-on report suggests GuliKit has built a more compact alternative for players who want a proper stand and a quick route to a hotel television without carrying the full official setup. The appeal is not only size but cost, with GuliKit pricing the accessory far below Nintendo’s dock set.
In practice, the dock is more substantial than it first appears. Although it is finished to resemble aluminium, The Verge found the shell is plastic, but also noted that the light weight makes it easier to pack. The design is a rounded square that is large enough to hold the console securely at a slight angle, which helps keep the Switch steady if the dock is nudged. A magnetic cover protects the USB-C connector when not in use and can be repositioned to act as a taller support, although The Verge said the magnets are not especially strong.
The dock also includes a three-position switch underneath, rubber feet, HDMI output, USB-C power input and a USB-A port for accessories. GuliKit says on its product page that the unit supports 4K at 60Hz, Auto Low Latency Mode, PD100W input, USB 3.0 and firmware updates for compatibility with future system versions. The company also says the accessory can be used in TV docking mode or desktop charging mode. That combination makes it more versatile than a simple travel stand, even if users still have to provide their own power adapter.
That omission is the main trade-off. The Verge said the need to supply a charger makes GuliKit less convenient than rival travel docks from Genki and Jsaux that build the power supply in. But for readers who already carry suitable adapters, the GuliKit option offers a much smaller and cheaper way to mirror the function of Nintendo’s dock. Nintendo Life also described the accessory as a light and elegant travel companion, while Notebookcheck reported that the Switch 2 version is 72% lighter than Nintendo’s original dock, reinforcing the case for portability over polish.
