HIDISC cable brings 4K Switch 2 play to big screens without a dock

Magnetic Research is preparing to launch a 2-metre USB-C to HDMI cable that mirrors compatible devices in 4K at 60Hz while supplying up to 85W of power.

Magnetic Research will release a high-end HIDISC Type-C HDMI mirroring cable in October, aiming at users who want to send video to a larger screen without carrying a separate dock. The company says the cable is designed for straightforward use: no app, no driver and no special setup, just a compatible USB Type-C device on one end and an HDMI display on the other.

Its main selling point is power delivery. According to the company’s announcement, the HDMI-side connector includes a USB Type-C power input, allowing users to attach a separate PD-compatible charger and supply up to 85W while mirroring video. That makes it more practical than simple display adapters for long sessions, particularly when a phone, tablet or laptop also needs to stay charged.

The cable supports output up to 4K resolution at 60Hz, which should be sufficient for fast-moving video and console play. Magnetic Research says it works with Nintendo Switch 2 as well as the original Nintendo Switch, making it a travel-friendly option for hotel rooms, friends’ homes, event venues and family visits. For Switch users, the appeal is clear: it removes the need to pack a dock, while still allowing play on a television or monitor.

The product is 2 metres long, weighs about 80g and uses ABS for its housing, according to the company and material supplied via its launch notice. The cable is intended for devices that support DisplayPort Alt Mode over USB Type-C, such as smartphones, tablets and notebooks, and it can be used with televisions, projectors and monitors at the display end. Release information circulated through PR Times also says it will be sold through Amazon, Rakuten, the company’s own website and a range of home-centre and electronics shops, including the firm’s MAG-LAB store near Akihabara station.
