JBL launches the Pulse 6, a premium portable Bluetooth speaker with 360-degree reactive lighting, ambient modes, and enhanced audio technology, redefining the multifunctional speaker market.
JBL has introduced the Pulse 6, a portable Bluetooth speaker that is meant to function as both an audio device and an ambient light source. The new model keeps the brand’s transparent cylindrical form, but adds an illuminated carry handle and a 360-degree lighting system designed to react to music. According to an announcement summarised by Yanko Design and a separate report by Cinco Días, the speaker offers 16 lighting patterns through the JBL One app, alongside basic equaliser controls.
The company is also positioning the Pulse 6 as a room object rather than a speaker that disappears when playback ends. A double-tap can switch on ambient lighting, while the volume control can also adjust brightness. JBL has also added a Sunset Mode, which gradually dims the lights and stops playback after up to 60 minutes. That makes the device more suitable for bedrooms and evening use than a conventional battery speaker.
Beneath the visual design, the Pulse 6 uses a 40W system made up of a 30W RMS woofer and a 10W RMS tweeter. JBL says it covers a 42Hz to 20kHz frequency range and uses AI Sound Boost to monitor audio in real time and limit distortion at higher volumes. The speaker also supports lossless audio over USB-C when connected to a Mac or Windows PC, according to the launch details.
The wireless specification is more current than that of many competing portable speakers. JBL has fitted Bluetooth 6.0 and support for SBC, AAC and LC3 codecs, while Auracast allows multiple compatible JBL speakers to play in sync. The Pulse 6 is rated IP68 for dust and water resistance, can run for up to 12 hours on battery power and adds another 2 hours with Playtime Boost. Charging over USB-C at 15W takes about 4.5 hours. It weighs 1.49kg and measures 131.7 x 264.1 x 106.4mm, so it remains genuinely portable despite its sculptural design.
JBL is launching the Pulse 6 first in China at 2,499 yuan, which is roughly $370, with wider international availability expected later. The pricing puts it in premium territory, but the product is clearly aimed at buyers who want a speaker that doubles as decorative lighting and a weather-resistant travel companion, rather than a purely utilitarian audio box.
