Keychron launches a pioneering full-size keyboard on Kickstarter, blending magnetic and mechanical switch technologies for gamers and typists seeking customisable responsiveness and comfort.
Keychron has opened a crowdfunding campaign for the V6 Ultra Hybrid, a full-size keyboard aimed at users who want gaming-grade responsiveness without giving up the feel of a conventional mechanical board. According to the company’s Kickstarter page, early backing starts at $149, and the product is pitched as its first fully customisable hybrid model in a 100 per cent layout.
The appeal is straightforward: one board, two switch philosophies. Keychron says the V6 Ultra Hybrid ships with magnetic switches fitted, but also supports compatible mechanical switches so owners can tailor the typing experience across the board or even mix switch types to suit different tasks. Gizmochina reported that the hybrid approach is built around a shared switch platform, allowing users to reserve magnetic switches for latency-sensitive keys such as WASD while keeping mechanical switches elsewhere.
On the performance side, Keychron says the board uses TMR sensing to enable adjustable actuation down to 0.1mm, rapid trigger behaviour, dynamic keystrokes and SOCD customisation. It also supports 8K polling over both wired and 2.4GHz wireless connections, plus Bluetooth 5.3. The case uses a gasket-mounted design with multiple damping layers, while double-shot OSA-profile PBT keycaps are fitted to provide a more muted typing profile. Hot-swappable sockets mean switches can be changed without soldering.
Keychron has also made software a larger part of the proposition. The V6 Ultra Hybrid works with the company’s QMK-based web launcher for key remapping, macros, firmware updates, RGB control and magnetic switch configuration. In beta, Keychron AI adds natural-language setup commands for tasks such as remapping keys and changing lighting effects. The board is compatible with macOS and Windows, and Keychron says battery life can reach up to 200 hours with the backlight off, aided by a detachable battery intended to improve long-term serviceability. Founder Fab Chan said the aim was to bring mechanical typing and magnetic gaming performance into one platform, while also making advanced customisation less demanding for everyday users.
