Keychron introduces the C100 8K, a macro pad with 100 programmable keys arranged in a 10-by-10 layout, providing expansive control for gaming, editing, and streaming workflows, with customisable RGB lighting and hot-swappable switches.
Macro pads have long been sold on the idea that a small set of programmable keys is enough. That works until a workflow expands, a new application is added or a user simply runs out of space. Keychron’s C100 8K takes a different approach: it offers 100 programmable keys in a 10-by-10 layout, giving users far more room than the typical six-to-24-key pad and removing the need to stack multiple devices side by side.
According to the company’s product information and the design write-up on Yanko Design, the C100 arrives with no preset functions at all. Every key is blank at first use, with assignments set through Keychron Launcher, the browser-based configuration tool. That software handles macros, key remapping and per-key RGB lighting, which becomes especially useful on a board with no printed legends. Colour zoning can help users separate tasks, such as editing, streaming or communications, into distinct visual groups.
Keychron also equips the device with its Apex Red linear switches, while hot-swappable sockets allow MX-style replacements without soldering. The keycaps are transparent ASA-profile units made from PBT and polycarbonate, which are intended to let the lighting show through more cleanly. A 8,000Hz polling rate places the C100 closer to gaming peripherals than to conventional macro pads, and Keychron says the layout can support both fast inputs and slower productivity shortcuts with low latency.
The wired-only USB Type-C connection avoids battery management and wireless delay, while adjustable feet and a plastic chassis keep the oversized square body practical for desk use. Measuring 196.65mm by 196.65mm, the C100 is close to the footprint of a full-size keyboard, but its appeal lies in how much more space it gives to custom control. Keychron has been moving further into high-spec custom input devices, and the C100 extends that strategy with a format aimed at users who need many more actions than a standard macro pad can comfortably provide.
