The MBox DS21, a versatile device unveiled on Kickstarter, combines ergonomic mouse, presentation remote, and media controller in one modular package, driven by innovative hand gesture control and broad device compatibility.
A new Kickstarter device called the MBox DS21 is being pitched as three products in one: an ergonomic mouse, a presentation clicker and a remote control. In its assembled form, the company says it weighs 85g and supports the whole palm. When the smaller core module is detached, it becomes a hand controller for slides, media and other tasks.
The centrepiece is a 6-axis gyroscope that translates hand motion into cursor movement. According to the campaign description, the controller can be used from as far as 15m away to change slides or scroll through content. A touch-sensitive surface is intended to handle clicks and volume adjustment, while the modular design could also make the device useful for controlling projectors, smart TVs, e-book readers and smartphone cameras.
Connectivity is offered through either a low-latency 2.4GHz USB receiver or Bluetooth 5.3, with support listed for Windows, macOS, iOS and Android. The campaign has already exceeded its initial funding goal, with early backers being offered the device at roughly €50 and a planned retail price of about €70. The developers say production is due to begin in September, with delivery scheduled for November.
The project arrives amid a wider wave of interest in ergonomic and customisable pointing devices. Recent crowdfunding efforts such as PiMouse, the R-Go Twister, WaverMouse and Elasto have all highlighted demand for mice that reduce strain or adapt to different users, while ERCHAM’s MK1 has taken the modular idea further by combining a mouse and keypad into a one-handed controller. The MBox DS21 is aimed at a broader audience, but it faces the same crowdfunded uncertainty as those rivals: the company itself acknowledges that precision magnetic coupling and consistent gyroscope performance across platforms remain technical challenges.
