Plugable’s UD-MSTH3 transforms multi-screen setups with native MST support and versatile connectivity

Plugable unveils the UD-MSTH3 docking station, enabling Windows and ChromeOS users to easily drive up to three external monitors via Multi-Stream Transport, offering a streamlined setup for hybrid and office workers.

Plugable’s UD-MSTH3 is aimed squarely at people who want a simple way to run multiple external screens without installing display software. The company says the dock uses Multi-Stream Transport, or MST, to drive up to three monitors from a single USB-C, USB4 or Thunderbolt connection on supported Windows 10 and 11 laptops as well as newer ChromeOS machines. In practice, that means a cleaner setup for hybrid workers, office users and IT teams who need a quick multi-screen workstation rather than a heavily customised desktop rig.

The dock’s main draw is its display flexibility. Plugable says it can handle one 4K monitor at 60Hz alongside two 1080p displays at 60Hz, with some DSC-capable systems able to push further depending on the host machine’s graphics support and bandwidth. The company also notes that performance varies by processor generation and host hardware, with newer Intel and AMD systems offering the best results. Plugable’s compatibility notes reinforce that point, saying the dock relies on the computer’s built-in graphics rather than DisplayLink software, so the laptop’s own video output capabilities determine what the dock can actually deliver.

Beyond video, the UD-MSTH3 is unusually well stocked for its size. It includes three HDMI 2.0 ports, six USB ports, a 2.5Gbps Ethernet port, SD and microSD card readers, a 3.5mm audio jack and dedicated charging options, including up to 100W for a connected laptop and 30W for a phone or tablet. GadgetGram says the unit has a compact vertical-or-horizontal design, with rubber feet and aluminium port covers adding to the build quality. Power comes from a 150W adaptor, and the dock also includes two Kensington lock slots for physical security.

There is one clear limitation: compatibility. Plugable says the MST-based design works natively on Windows and ChromeOS, but macOS does not support the same multi-display behaviour, so Mac users will not get the full triple-monitor experience. For buyers in the target audience, though, the price may help the case. GadgetGram lists the UD-MSTH3 at $149.99, positioning it as a relatively accessible option for anyone who wants a driver-free docking station that can power a serious home office or hot-desk setup.
