QNAP has launched the TS-h966TX, a nine-bay hybrid NAS designed for small studios and collaborative production environments, combining high-speed SSD caching, ample HDD storage, and fast connectivity options in a compact form.
QNAP has introduced the TS-h966TX, a compact nine-bay hybrid NAS aimed at content creation teams that need both high-capacity storage and fast local access. The system combines five 3.5-inch SATA bays with four 2.5-inch U.2 NVMe SSD bays, allowing users to mix bulk hard-drive capacity with SSD acceleration for editing, caching and faster project hand-off.
The company says the unit is designed for small studios and collaborative production environments where desk space is limited but throughput matters. Compared with earlier six-bay Thunderbolt 4 HDD models, QNAP says the TS-h966TX is 36% smaller. It includes two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a 10GbE port and a 2.5GbE port, giving it a mix of direct-attached and network connectivity for Mac and Windows workstations.
Internally, the TS-h966TX uses an Intel Core i3 six-core processor rated at up to 4.4GHz and DDR5 memory that can be expanded to 64GB. QNAP pairs this with its ZFS-based QuTS hero operating system, which is intended to improve data integrity and support features such as WORM storage. The system also supports HDMI 4K output, USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, Qsirch file search and USB 4 JBOD expansion through the TL-D810TC4 enclosure.
For creators handling large media libraries, the appeal is in the balance rather than raw size alone. The hybrid layout is meant to keep active projects responsive while reserving cheaper HDD storage for archive and overflow capacity. QNAP is positioning the TS-h966TX as a workstation-friendly storage platform for editing, VFX and multi-user production, where both speed and resilience are required.
