Electrical experts warn that storing portable chargers in direct sunlight or high temperatures can lead to swelling, fires, or explosions, emphasising proper storage and charging habits to ensure safety.
Portable chargers may be convenient, but keeping them in direct sun or high heat can turn them into a hazard, according to Vecdi Yüce, a Kırklareli-based electrical and electronics specialist with 31 years in the field. He said the devices are useful for mobile phone users, but warned that poor storage and overcharging can cause swelling and, in severe cases, fire or explosion risks.
Yüce told local media that power banks should not be left on a car dashboard or anywhere exposed to intense sunlight. He said they are better kept in shaded places, particularly in hot weather, because excessive heat can affect the battery cells inside the unit. Reports from Yeni Birlik and Aksiyon carried the same warning, underlining that overheating is the main concern.
He also cautioned against leaving a power bank connected to a charger for too long after it reaches full charge. In his view, charging should stop as soon as the device is topped up, rather than being left plugged in for extended periods. He said prolonged charging increases the risk of swelling and failure.
The warning reflects a wider battery-safety issue that applies to many lithium-ion devices. Heat, physical pressure and poor charging habits can all accelerate battery degradation. For users, the practical advice is simple: keep portable chargers cool, do not store them in direct sun, and unplug them once charging is complete.
