Samsung launches the Galaxy SmartTag 3, a more compact and longer-lasting item tracker compatible with both Android and iPhone, featuring advanced location technology and new features to help users find their belongings more precisely.
Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy SmartTag 3, a smaller, lighter update to its item tracker line that is aimed at keys, bags, luggage and pet collars. The company says the new model is about 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter than the previous version, making it easier to clip on to everyday belongings without adding much bulk.
Battery life is one of the main selling points. According to Samsung, the SmartTag 3 can run for up to 550 days in standard use, or as long as 790 days in Power Saving Mode. That places it among the longer-lasting trackers on the market and means the 3-volt watch battery should not need replacing often.
The device also broadens compatibility. Samsung says the SmartTag 3 works with both Android and iPhone through the SmartThings Find app, allowing families to share access to a tagged item across different phone platforms. That cross-OS support is notable, but it does not mean the tracker joins Google’s Android-wide Find Hub network; it still relies on Samsung’s Galaxy Find Network for finding lost items, even though Samsung says that network now includes more than 900 million devices worldwide.
The tracker uses Bluetooth 6.0 with channel sounding and Ultra-Wideband for more precise location guidance. Samsung and other reports describe a Compass View feature that can direct users to a tag from up to 60 metres away, though SamMobile noted that this enhanced mode is currently limited to a small set of newer Galaxy phones. The SmartTag 3 also carries an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, and includes features such as Place Notification, Movement Detection Alert, Location History, Left Behind Alert and NFC-based Lost Mode, which can display contact details when the tag is scanned.
Samsung says the SmartTag 3 will go on sale in South Korea on 7 October. The company’s US announcement says it should reach the American market by early November 2026, priced at $29.99 for a single unit and $99.99 for a four-pack. Other reports suggest broader international availability may follow in 2027, which indicates the rollout may vary by region. The device will be sold in black and white.
