SanDisk launches 2TB flagship SD cards with faster speeds for professional videographers

SanDisk has expanded its high-performance SD card range to include 2TB capacities, offering enhanced speed and durability for long shootings in 4K, 6K, and 8K resolutions, alongside a refreshed portable SSD with record-breaking transfer speeds.

SanDisk has expanded its flagship SD card range with new 2TB capacities and higher sustained performance, a move that will matter most to videographers working long days on high-resolution productions. According to the company, the updated Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-II V60 and Extreme PRO SD UHS-II V90 cards are available now, with the V60 line starting at $199.99 for 64GB and the V90 line starting at $362.99 for 128GB. For crews shooting weddings, events and documentary work, the appeal is not only raw capacity but the ability to carry more of a shoot on a single card before offloading.

SanDisk says the Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-II V60 card now reaches 2TB and is rated for up to 300MB/s read speeds and up to 250MB/s write speeds on capacities from 256GB to 2TB. Its V60 rating places it in the category intended for sustained video capture, and the company positions it for 4K and 6K recording. B&H Photo’s product listing mirrors those figures and notes that the card is aimed at continuous video capture, burst photography and time-lapse use.

The higher-end Extreme PRO SD UHS-II V90 card also now tops out at 2TB. SanDisk says it offers read speeds up to 310MB/s and write speeds up to 305MB/s on 512GB to 2TB models, with a V90 rating intended for 8K recording and high-frame-rate work. SanDisk’s own data sheet says the card can store up to 1,118 minutes of 8K video at 30fps on the 2TB model, while B&H lists the same sequential performance figures and describes it as suitable for 8K, 4K and Full HD capture.

Both cards are built with professional field use in mind. SanDisk says they carry IP68 water and dust resistance, can withstand drops from up to six metres and include a lifetime limited warranty, although the company notes that warranty terms vary in some markets. Each card also comes with a two-year RescuePRO Deluxe file recovery subscription, subject to registration. The cards will work in older UHS-I slots, but their full performance is only available in UHS-II devices and readers.

SanDisk has also refreshed its Extreme PRO Portable SSD, which it says can reach up to 4,000MB/s read speeds and up to 3,800MB/s write speeds on 2TB and 4TB models. The company claims that this is fast enough to move 10 minutes of 12K footage in just under a minute under test conditions. With IP65 protection, 256-bit AES hardware encryption and pricing starting at $687.99 for 2TB, the drive extends the same logic as the new SD cards: more capacity on set, faster offloads afterwards and less time spent waiting on media management.
