Sanwa Supply launches a new USB-C cable featuring a removable adapter that disables data transfer, aiming to prevent data theft and malware risks during public charging, with support for fast charging and versatile compatibility.
Sanwa Supply has launched a USB-C cable designed to reduce the risk of data theft when charging from public ports. According to the company, the new 500-USB108BK and 500-USB108W models use a detachable adapter to block data communication, allowing the cable to operate in charging-only mode when needed.
The idea is aimed at travellers and office workers who may rely on shared USB sockets in airports, hotels and cafés. Sanwa Supply says the removable adapter physically disables data transfer, helping to lower exposure to unauthorised access or malware while still letting users top up devices safely.
When the adapter is removed, the cable reverts to a standard USB-C lead with USB 2.0 data support and transfer speeds of up to 480Mbps. It also supports USB Power Delivery charging at up to 60W over USB-C to USB-C connections, which makes it suitable for smartphones, tablets and some notebooks. With the Type-A charging adapter attached, output is limited to 15W.
The cable ships with both Type-C and Type-A charging-only adapters, so it can be used with a wider range of public chargers and domestic equipment. Sanwa Supply also says the cable uses a soft silicone jacket to reduce tangling in bags, and that the 1m lead weighs about 32g.
The products are available through Sanwa Direct in black and white, priced at 1,436 yen before tax. The launch sits alongside a broader run of utility-focused Sanwa accessories, including high-spec Type-C cables and network conversion leads the company has announced in recent months.
