Schlage’s Sense Pro smart lock leverages Ultra Wideband technology to deliver a precise, hands-free unlocking experience for Apple users, setting a new standard in smart-home security and convenience, though its Apple-centric features and premium price may limit its appeal.
Schlage’s Sense Pro arrives as a rare category of smart lock: one that uses Ultra Wideband to make Apple Home Key feel genuinely hands-free. In AppleInsider’s review, the lock was described as a strong step forward for smart-home entry, but also as a product that makes most sense for Apple users at launch because its most compelling features are tied to that ecosystem.
The company says the Sense Pro uses Schlage Converge technology with UWB, Matter over Thread, built-in Wi‑Fi and a USB-C port for temporary power backup. Schlage also says the lock went on sale in the US on 29 June 2026 at $399, with Satin Nickel and Matte Black finishes. Tom’s Guide reported the same launch price and noted that the lock is compatible with Apple Home, the Schlage app and Matter over Thread.
What sets the Sense Pro apart is the way it handles arrival at the door. Schlage says UWB helps determine a user’s approach and intent with greater precision than older Bluetooth-based auto-unlock systems. AppleInsider’s testing found that the lock reacted reliably and unlocked at the right moment, with no need to raise a phone or tap a watch to the reader. That level of consistency is the main reason UWB is being treated as the lock’s defining feature.
The hardware reflects that ambition. AppleInsider said the lock feels mostly metal, looks restrained and minimal, and carries a BHMA Grade 2 rating, which is strong for a residential deadbolt. Installation was described as straightforward for a pre-drilled door, and the package includes the usual fitting hardware, four AA batteries and pairing details for Matter and Apple Home. Schlage’s own materials also emphasise the lock’s one-touch locking, remote management and high-traffic suitability.
There are, however, clear trade-offs. The Sense Pro does not include a physical key, which will put off some buyers. It also uses disposable AA batteries rather than a rechargeable pack, a choice AppleInsider regarded as less elegant than rival approaches. Schlage says future support for Aliro is planned, which should broaden interoperability beyond Apple devices, but that feature is not available at launch.
That leaves the Sense Pro in an unusual position. It is one of the most advanced smart deadbolts available, and for iPhone and Apple Watch users who want Home Key with UWB, it appears to work exactly as intended. Yet the premium price and Apple-first limitations mean it is not the most practical choice for every home. AppleInsider concluded that it is an excellent lock, but one with a very specific audience.
