Sennheiser launches the Momentum True Wireless 5, featuring improved noise cancellation, enhanced call quality, refined design, and greater repairability, building on the strengths of the Momentum True Wireless 4.
Sennheiser’s Momentum True Wireless 5 looks like a careful but meaningful update to last year’s Momentum True Wireless 4, rather than a wholesale redesign. Trusted Reviews said the earlier model was already one of the best noise-cancelling earbuds available, so the question is less about whether the new pair is a major leap and more about whether Sennheiser has fixed the small shortcomings that remained.
The most obvious gains are in noise control and call quality. Sennheiser says the new earbuds use a revised adaptive hybrid active noise-cancellation system, along with an automatic anti-wind mode. It also adds a four-microphone array, bone-conduction voice sensors and AI speech extraction, all aimed at improving both transparency mode and voice pickup. That matters because the Momentum True Wireless 4 was widely praised for its transparency mode, but less convincing when it came to capturing speech cleanly.
There is also a fresh design. Sennheiser says the fifth-generation earbuds use an aerodynamic shape based on thousands of ear models, and claims a large share of testers found them more comfortable than the previous pair. The charging case has been slimmed down too, with a narrower profile and a lower-friction finish that should make it easier to carry. The earbuds and case still carry an IP54 rating, so they are protected against dust, rain and sweat, but not full submersion.
Another notable change is repairability. The Momentum True Wireless 5 adopts replaceable batteries in both the earbuds and the charging case, echoing a wider move across Sennheiser’s premium audio range towards longer product life. That is a practical improvement at a time when sealed batteries often determine when otherwise functional wearables are discarded.
Connectivity and battery life have also been pushed forward. The new model moves from Bluetooth 5.4 to Bluetooth 6 and keeps support for Google Fast Pair, Microsoft Swift Pair and multipoint switching. Sennheiser says battery life rises to as much as 40 hours, up from 30 hours on the Momentum True Wireless 4, which itself offered an eight-minute top-up for about an hour of listening. The fifth-generation model is due to launch on September 3 at £249.99/$299.95, slightly above the older pair’s original £229.99 price. For now, the safer buy may still be the proven Momentum True Wireless 4, but the new model appears to address the areas where Sennheiser had most room to improve.
