Shokz has announced two new open-ear models designed for runners and commuters, offering enhanced comfort, longer battery life, and improved resistance, with a launch date set for August 27.
Shokz has unveiled two new open-ear models aimed at runners, commuters and users who want situational awareness without sealing the ear canal. The launch pairs the OpenFit Air 2, a clip-style true wireless model, with the OpenRun 2, a bone-conduction headset built around a single band that sits behind the head. Both go on sale on 27 August at $129.95 in the US.
The OpenFit Air 2 is Shokz’s lightest open-ear true wireless earbud yet, at 7.2g per side. SoundGuys reports that the charging case has been reduced by 10.5%, while the full package is 17.6% lighter than before. Shokz is also using a flexible nickel-titanium frame to ease pressure and heat build-up, which is a common complaint with open-ear designs. Battery life is rated at up to eight hours per charge, or 36 hours including the case, and the set carries IP55 resistance against sweat and splashes.
For users who prefer a banded format, the OpenRun 2 trims its earlier design by 9%, according to Shokz. It offers 10 hours of playback and an IP67 rating for dust and water protection, making it the more rugged of the two. As with other open-ear products, the appeal is not isolation but awareness: the wearer can still hear traffic, voices and other ambient sounds while listening.
