Sony’s latest premium true wireless earbuds, the WF-1000XM6, have emerged as leaders in the noise-cancelling market with improved active noise cancellation, superior sound quality, and a redesigned, comfortable fit, challenging established rivals like Bose.
Sony’s latest premium true wireless earbuds have become a clear frontrunner in the noise-cancelling market, with Mashable naming the WF-1000XM6 its top overall pick. At $329, they are not aimed at bargain hunters, but the case for the price rests on a strong mix of audio quality, effective noise cancellation and a redesigned fit that appears to address one of the main weaknesses of earlier models.
The headline improvement is active noise cancellation. Mashable found the effect strong enough to rival Bose’s QuietComfort Ultra earbuds, while SoundGuys measured an average reduction in loudness of 88% across frequencies. Android Central said Sony’s new processor arrangement, combining the Integrated Processor V2 with the HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3e, helps the earbuds perform better in mid to high frequencies such as office chatter and café noise. Sony has also increased the number of microphones to four per earbud, up from three in the previous model, which should help the system pick up and counter external sound more accurately.
Sound quality remains a major selling point. Mashable described the WF-1000XM6 as the best-sounding Sony earbuds it had tested, while TechGearLab praised their spacious presentation and clear separation between instruments. SoundGuys said the earbuds generally deliver strong audio performance, even though it noted a bass boost when noise cancellation is switched on. That trade-off may matter to listeners who want a completely unchanged frequency response, but the broader verdict from reviewers is that Sony has produced a polished, highly capable tuning.
Sony has also focused on comfort and everyday usability. The earbuds are now slimmer and more oval in shape, with a more flush fit intended to reduce fatigue during long listening sessions and improve passive isolation. SoundGuys said the redesign includes spongey ear tips and an 11% slimmer width, while Android Central highlighted added ventilation to reduce discomfort during movement and chewing. Battery life is listed at 8 hours from the earbuds and 24 hours from the case, and support for Bluetooth 5.3, LDAC, LC3, multipoint connectivity, Qi wireless charging and LE Audio gives the model a feature set that matches its premium positioning.
