Sony’s latest WF-1000XM6 earbuds emerge as a top contender for iPhone owners seeking high-end sound and features, though expert reviews highlight some limitations in noise cancellation and call quality.
Sony’s WF-1000XM6 has emerged as a leading premium alternative for iPhone users who want more than the default AirPods experience. The appeal lies in a broad blend of strong audio performance, effective active noise cancellation and practical everyday features. RTINGS and SoundGuys both describe the earbuds as among the best in class, while What Hi-Fi says Sony’s latest model improves on its predecessor in sound and design.
For iPhone owners, the specification sheet is especially relevant. RTINGS says the WF-1000XM6 supports AAC, which is the codec Apple devices commonly use, and offers multipoint pairing for two devices at once. Sony’s quoted battery life is up to 8 hours with noise cancellation on and up to 12 hours with it off, with IPX4 protection against sweat and splashes. The listed US price is $329.99, placing the model firmly in the premium bracket. What Hi-Fi gives the earbuds the edge over the Bose QC Ultra Earbuds 2nd Gen on sound quality and battery life.
Independent reviews, however, suggest the picture is not perfect. TechRadar says the earbuds are thinner than the WF-1000XM5 and add stronger app controls and improved Bluetooth stability, but it found noise cancellation only decent rather than class-leading and said call quality fell short of expectations. Android Central, by contrast, highlights a notable jump in noise cancellation, saying the dual-processor design and extra microphones improve isolation and voice pickup. Taken together, the reviews point to a product that is technically ambitious and highly capable, even if some users may still prefer Apple’s tighter ecosystem integration or Bose’s ANC tuning.
