Soundpeats launches the UU2, a new open-ear clip-style earbud model in the US, UK, Australia and Europe, addressing issues of sound leakage, touch controls and battery life while maintaining an affordable price point.
Soundpeats has brought out a successor to one of its better-regarded budget open-ear models, and the new UU2 appears aimed at fixing two of the most common weaknesses in clip-style earbuds: unwanted leakage and overly sensitive touch controls. The company says the earbuds are now available in the US, UK, Australia and parts of Europe, with pricing set at $49.99 in the US and £59.99 in the UK, undercutting the original Clip1 in both markets.
The UU2 keeps the lightweight open-ear, clip-on format that sits outside the ear canal and leaves the listener aware of their surroundings. Soundpeats says each earbud weighs about 5g and uses a 12mm dual-magnet dynamic driver, alongside its DynamicEQ processing and multipoint connectivity for switching between devices.
Battery life is another area where the new model moves ahead. Soundpeats claims up to 10 hours from the earbuds themselves and as much as 42 hours in total with the charging case. That is a modest but meaningful increase over the Clip1, which is especially relevant for a design category often chosen for commuting, walking and all-day wear.
The more notable change is the addition of a sound leak reduction mode, which should help limit the amount of audio that escapes to people nearby. The company has also replaced touch controls with physical buttons, a sensible change for exercise and daily use, when accidental taps can become a nuisance. Early third-party impressions from Japanese review sites suggest the UU2 delivers stronger low-end response and clear sound for an open-ear design, though it remains to be seen whether it can match the best in-ear alternatives for outright bass impact.
