Techly’s new three-bay dock offers fast offline cloning for mixed drives

Techly has introduced a compact three-bay docking station with standalone drive cloning capabilities, supporting both SATA and NVMe drives. The device prioritises ease of use for IT professionals and power users seeking efficient data migration without a PC.

Techly has added a compact three-bay docking station to its storage range that is aimed at users who regularly move data between different drive types. The I-CASE SATA-TST57 combines two M.2 NVMe slots with one bay for 2.5in or 3.5in SATA drives, all connected through a single USB Type-C port. According to Techly, it also works as a standalone duplicator, so a source drive can be copied to a target without using a computer. The listed price is €109.20.

The design is intended for desk use but is small enough to carry between jobs, measuring 121 x 75 x 46 mm and weighing 410g. Techly says the drive bays are tool-free, which should reduce turnaround time when units are swapped repeatedly. The SATA slot accepts 2.5in HDDs and SSDs, as well as 3.5in hard drives, while the two M.2 bays support NVMe SSDs in 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280 and 22110 formats, including models fitted with heatsinks.

Its main distinguishing feature is offline cloning. Techly says the device can duplicate drives while powered only by its own 12V, 3A adapter, with the process started by pressing the Clone button twice. The supported copy paths are limited to four combinations: NVMe slot one to NVMe slot two, NVMe slot one to SATA, SATA to NVMe slot two, and NVMe slot two to SATA. That leaves the first M.2 bay as the most natural source in the built-in cloning workflow, while the second slot is the most flexible destination.

Speeds vary by bay. Techly quotes up to 10Gbps over USB Type-C overall, with the second NVMe slot rated at up to 10Gbps, the first NVMe slot at up to 8Gbps and the SATA bay at up to 6Gbps, which matches the ceiling of SATA III. In practical terms, that means the dock is not trying to exploit the full performance of the fastest PCIe 4.0 SSDs; rather, it is built to make SATA and NVMe drives easy to access, copy and compare from one enclosure.

Compatibility is broad enough for mixed environments. Techly lists support for NTFS, FAT, FAT32 and exFAT, alongside Windows, macOS from version 10.0 onwards, and Linux. The package includes the docking station, a USB Type-C cable, the 12V power supply and a user manual. For IT technicians, system administrators and power users who frequently migrate notebooks or archive disks, the appeal lies less in headline throughput than in the ability to keep multiple drive types on the bench and clone them without extra software.
