TerraMaster’s F4-425, a flexible four-bay NAS aimed at homes and small businesses, sees a substantial price reduction, boosting its appeal as a cost-effective networked storage solution with media capabilities and enhanced connectivity.
TerraMaster’s F4-425 is being sold as a straightforward way to build centralised storage without moving into premium pricing, and Amazon’s latest discount makes that pitch more persuasive. The four-bay NAS is down to $366 in the US, from $430, while TerraMaster’s own US store lists it at $343.99. In the UK, Amazon is offering it for £320, down from £400. That still leaves the cost of drives to the buyer, but it lowers the entry point for a machine designed to do more than sit on a network and hold files.
The hardware is aimed at homes and small offices that need a flexible storage box with some media capability. TerraMaster says the F4-425 uses an Intel x86 quad-core processor, 4GB of RAM and hardware-assisted 4K H.265 decoding, which should help when the device is used for streaming or transcoding video. Each bay supports drives of up to 30TB, giving a maximum raw capacity of 120TB, although that figure depends on filling all four bays and does not account for redundancy.
Networking is another key part of the appeal. The F4-425 includes a 2.5GbE port, which can move data faster than standard Gigabit Ethernet if paired with compatible switches, cables and clients. B&H Photo Video describes the system as suitable for families, creatives and SMB users, and notes support for RAID 0, 1, JBOD, Single, TRAID and TRAID+ storage modes. TerraMaster also says the unit operates at 21dB(A) and uses tool-free drive trays, which should make it easier to install and quieter in a living space or home office.
The real limitation is that this is a diskless NAS, so buyers still need to budget for hard drives, plus any network hardware required to exploit the faster port. TechRadar’s previous review of the related F4-423 found the line attractive for users who wanted better-than-Gigabit performance at a manageable price, and the F4-425 appears to follow the same formula with updated media features and more storage headroom. For anyone planning backups, a shared media library or a small home server, the discount makes the package more compelling than the headline price alone suggests.
