Kokuyo’s new translucent stationery and tech products highlight a trend where visibility and aesthetics elevate everyday items into intriguing objects, blending function with curiosity.
There is a simple reason transparent gadgets keep drawing attention: they make the mechanism part of the appeal. Kokuyo’s TRANSPARENT MECHANISM stationery line turns ordinary desk tools into small objects of curiosity. According to Kokuyo, the range includes the 2-Way Portable Scissors, the Harinacs stapleless stapler and the Dotliner tape glue, all built with clear resin so the moving parts remain visible. The company says the coloured components are meant to help users understand how each product works, while the finish is intended to give the plastic a glass-like quality.
The 2-Way Portable Scissors are the clearest example of that idea in use. Kokuyo says the tool switches with one hand between box-cutter mode and scissors mode, with a 3mm blade for opening cardboard and a second setting for cutting items such as tags and plastic bands. The Harinacs takes a different route, binding around five sheets without staples, while the Dotliner uses tape-style adhesive for cleaner application. Together, they show how a transparent shell can add interest to products that are already defined by function.
The same logic carries over to the SMC01 toy camera from SAC, which is offered in transparent colourways including clear white, purple, orange, red, blue and green. SAC says the compact camera uses a 1/4-inch CMOS sensor, records JPEG stills and AVI video, and supports microSD cards of up to 128GB. With a 0.96-inch rear display and a price positioned at the budget end of the market, it is less about technical ambition than about the charm of a pocketable object that looks as though it has been taken apart and reassembled for display.
Moondrop’s PILL – Capsule takes the idea into audio. According to Moondrop, the ear-cuff style wireless earphones come in a transparent, capsule-shaped case and use 13mm drivers with a large rear chamber to strengthen bass output. The company also claims a directional sound transmission system cuts leakage, while battery life reaches eight hours in the earbuds and 20 hours with the charging case. In a market where many wireless earphones look interchangeable, that clear shell gives the product a distinct identity before a note has been played.
