Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro set for September launch with focus on premium and foldable models

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro on September 9, introducing a split release strategy with a focus on high-end models and foldable design, amid rising interest from investors and consumers in the latest innovations and AI integration.

Apple is moving towards a September launch for the iPhone 18 Pro, with Forbes saying Sept. 9 is the leading date for the event. The timing would fit Apple’s usual early-autumn pattern and could set the tone for its most important sales quarter of the year.

The company has not confirmed the date or the final specification list, but the expected launch is already drawing close attention from investors, suppliers and consumers. Forbes has said pre-orders could begin on Sept. 11, with the Pro models reaching stores on Sept. 18, while the standard iPhone 18 may not arrive until spring 2027.

That split release would mark a notable change in Apple’s iPhone strategy. MacRumors says Apple is preparing to lead with the higher-end Pro range and its first foldable phone, leaving the lower-priced model for later. Analysts say that could push more buyers towards premium devices and lift Apple’s average selling price.

The hardware rumours centre on Apple’s next A20-series chip, which is expected to use TSMC’s 2nm manufacturing process. MacRumors says that shift could bring better performance and battery life, while also giving Apple more room to run on-device artificial intelligence features without sacrificing efficiency.

Camera changes are also expected to feature prominently. Reports cited by MacRumors and Creative Bloq point to a variable-aperture main camera, which would give users more control over light capture and depth of field. A smaller Dynamic Island is also widely expected, alongside possible refinements to the rear design and MagSafe integration.

Apple’s AI pitch will be under particular scrutiny. The company has already pushed Apple Intelligence across its software ecosystem, but investors want to know whether those features will actually persuade users to upgrade hardware rather than simply try them on older devices. The iPhone 18 Pro may become an early test of whether AI can influence replacement cycles in a mature smartphone market.

There are also signs that Apple is preparing a more demanding product from a manufacturing perspective. Creative Bloq reported leak-driven claims that the Pro Max could become heavier, possibly because of a larger battery and more advanced components. If accurate, that would underline Apple’s effort to prioritise endurance and capability over a slimmer profile.

For Apple investors, the key questions are likely to be familiar: pricing, preorder demand and whether the company can justify another premium upgrade cycle. A strong launch would support Apple’s holiday-quarter outlook and help suppliers such as TSMC. A weaker response, however, would suggest that many customers still see little reason to replace relatively recent phones.
