Leaked details suggest Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will feature a new chip, larger batteries, and advanced camera capabilities, signalling a more substantial upgrade than previous models ahead of a September unveiling.
Apple’s next Pro iPhones are being tipped for a September unveiling, with industry reports pointing to an event around September 8 or September 9, 2026. Reuters-style coverage is not available here, but MacRumors and Tom’s Guide both cite Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in suggesting that the Pro models, and possibly Apple’s long-rumoured foldable, could arrive first, while the standard iPhone 18 may be held back until spring 2027. That would mark a notable shift in Apple’s launch rhythm.
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are also said to be due for more than a routine refresh. MacRumors’ roundup says the Pro line is expected to gain Apple’s A20 Pro chip, built on a 2nm process, alongside the C2 modem, Apple’s next in-house 5G component. In practical terms, that combination should matter less for headline speed alone than for efficiency, helping battery life and thermal performance while also giving Apple tighter control over key wireless hardware.
Battery capacity is another area where the Pro Max could move meaningfully ahead. Leaks cited by India Today suggest the iPhone 18 Pro Max may reach 5,425mAh in its US version, with a slightly smaller unit for models that still include a physical SIM slot. That would be up from the battery sizes reported for the current Pro Max generation. The same reporting also points to LTPO+ display technology, which should allow finer power management on the OLED panel and may help extend endurance further.
Camera changes could be the most visible upgrade. According to the India Today report, Apple is testing a variable-aperture main camera for the iPhone 18 Pro, a feature that would let the lens alter light intake and depth of field more flexibly than a fixed-aperture system. The publication also reports that Apple may simplify the Camera Control button after mixed feedback on its touch-sensitive functions. On top of that, satellite connectivity may move beyond emergency use, with reports suggesting Apple is exploring fuller satellite-based 5G access, though the usefulness of such a feature would still depend on infrastructure and regional coverage.
Taken together, the leaks point to a Pro lineup that could be more substantial than Apple’s usual annual update. A more efficient chip, a new modem, a larger battery and more capable camera hardware would all fit Apple’s pattern of tightening flagship performance through internal component control.
