Apple is set to unveil a major new direction at its September 2026 event, including its first foldable iPhone and a revamped flagship lineup, under new CEO John Ternus.
Apple is expected to use its September 2026 event to mark a major change in direction, with John Ternus due to take over as chief executive on 1 September and host the company’s first autumn launch in the role roughly a week later. Details have not been confirmed, but MacRumors and Macworld both expect the presentation to centre on the top-end iPhone 18 Pro range, alongside Apple Watch updates and the company’s first foldable iPhone.
The most probable headline products are the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. MacRumors says both models should look broadly similar to their predecessors, but with a smaller Dynamic Island and Apple’s A20 Pro chip, which is expected to be built using a 2-nanometre process. Macworld adds that the phones may also gain under-display Face ID, a variable-aperture main camera and expanded satellite connectivity through Apple’s C2 modem. Reports also point to new colour finishes, including deep red or dark cherry, and a later spring 2027 launch for the standard iPhone 18.
Apple’s first foldable iPhone is also now a serious expectation rather than a distant rumour. According to MacRumors, the device, referred to internally as V68 and possibly sold as iPhone Ultra, would open in a book-style format with a screen of about 7.7 inches when unfolded and around 5.3 to 5.5 inches when closed. If accurate, that would place it among the most expensive consumer devices Apple has made, with estimates ranging from $2,000 to $2,500.
The company is also likely to refresh its wearable and home product lines. MacRumors expects Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, with the emphasis on a new chip, health and fitness improvements, and a larger battery for the standard model. On the home side, possible announcements include updated Apple TV 4K and HomePod devices, plus new smart-home hardware such as a security camera and a hub with a 7-inch display and Siri powered by artificial intelligence. MacRumors says some of these products may be held back for a later October or November event, while new Macs and an iPad mini with an OLED display could arrive before the end of 2026.
