Apple is poised to launch a new ‘Ultra’ range featuring a foldable iPhone, camera-enabled AirPods, and a redesigned MacBook, signalling a bold push into high-end devices that could challenge existing standards and expectations.
Apple is preparing a broader push into premium hardware, with reports pointing to three products that could carry an “Ultra” label: a foldable iPhone, camera-enabled AirPods and a redesigned MacBook with a touchscreen. The clearest near-term change is the foldable phone, which multiple reports say could arrive in September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Macworld and MacRumors have both said the device may be called the iPhone Ultra and would become Apple’s most expensive handset yet, with pricing expected to start at about $1,999 and possibly climb beyond $2,499.
The foldable model is said to use a book-style design with a 7.7-inch inner display and a 5.3-inch outer display. According to the reports, the larger panel would be intended to improve video viewing, app use and multitasking when the device is open. Apple is also expected to fit it with dual rear cameras and a single front camera. One of the more unusual details is the reported replacement of Face ID with Touch ID in the power button, a change that would mark a sharp departure from the current flagship iPhone line.
That authentication shift appears tied to the device’s thin folded profile. Creative Bloq reported that Apple may have abandoned Face ID because the sensor array would be difficult to house in such a compact design. The same reporting suggests the premium pricing and hardware compromises are already fuelling debate over whether a foldable iPhone can justify the “Ultra” badge. MacRumors has also said the phone could use an A20 chip and 12GB of RAM, underlining how much of a step up Apple is apparently planning.
Apple’s ambitions do not appear to stop at phones. Reports from MacRumors and TechSpot say the company is also developing AirPods Ultra, which would resemble AirPods Pro but add tiny infrared cameras. Those cameras could support Visual Intelligence by giving Siri more context about the user’s surroundings and reducing the need to point an iPhone at an object or scene. TechSpot said a small LED would indicate when the cameras are active and that code found in an iOS 27 developer beta pointed to AirPods with cameras moving closer to launch.
The third product in the reported Ultra line-up is a MacBook aimed at the top end of Apple’s notebook range. According to MacRumors, the machine would arrive between late this year and early 2027 with an OLED touchscreen, a thinner case than current MacBook Pro models and an iPhone-style Dynamic Island. The same report says Apple is planning to use M5 Pro and M5 Max chips rather than waiting for M6 silicon, while also including an Apple-designed C2 modem for cellular connectivity. If accurate, that would make it Apple’s most radical MacBook redesign in years.
