Google announces its Pixel 11 range, challenging Apple and Samsung with competitive trade-in deals and advanced camera features, set to reshape premium smartphone buying in August.
Google’s new Pixel 11 range is set to go on sale on 20 August, and the launch is being framed as a direct challenge to Apple and Samsung owners weighing up a switch. The line-up consists of four models: the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. According to Android Central and TechRadar, the base handset starts at £879, while the Pro begins at £1,079.
The headline incentive is Google’s trade-in offer, which can reduce the cost by up to £850 for customers ordering the Pro or Pro XL before 1 September and handing in an eligible device. That figure is based on the most valuable trade-ins, including a 1TB iPhone 16 Pro, so the savings will be lower for many other phones. Google is also adding a £400 bonus on top of the handset’s standard trade-in value, which is why the promotion can bring the effective cost of a top-spec model down sharply.
The new phones centre on Google’s Tensor G6 chip, which the company says is its fastest yet, alongside the Titan M3 security coprocessor and Gemini AI features for search, drafting and everyday assistance. Reporting from Digital Camera World says the camera system is one of the biggest changes, with the Pro models getting a 50MP main sensor, a 48MP telephoto unit and up to 120x zoom, while the standard Pixel 11 gains a 48MP main sensor and 30x Super Zoom. The same report says Magic Capture can combine video and stills, and that Camera Looks is designed to keep colour rendering consistent across different skin tones.
Retailers and carriers are also pushing their own offers, which makes the buying route more complicated. Sky Mobile is advertising the Pixel 11 Pro from £30 a month plus £12 upfront on a 36-month contract, although the long-term cost can easily exceed Google’s direct trade-in price once data allowances and price rises are factored in. TechRadar says Three is offering especially aggressive savings on the Pixel 11 Pro XL when a plan and trade-in are bundled together, while other sellers are adding extras such as watches, cases and discounted tariffs. In practical terms, the best value depends on whether buyers want an outright handset, a SIM-only setup or a full contract.
