Despite a contracting global wearable band market, Huawei has increased its share to 18%, driven by a broader product portfolio and new health functionalities, including a diabetes risk study, signalling shifting consumer priorities.
Huawei has strengthened its position in the global wearable band market, even as the category contracted in the second quarter of 2026. Omdia said worldwide shipments of wearable bands fell by 2% year on year in Q2 2026, but Huawei still increased its share to 18%, up from 17% a year earlier.
The research firm said Huawei’s performance was supported by a broader product portfolio and the return of its flagship children’s smartwatch line to global markets after a five-year gap. Omdia also pointed to Huawei’s cross-platform smartphone compatibility and a wider set of health and fitness functions, including a new diabetes risk study, as factors widening its appeal.
Xiaomi finished second with 17% of the market, down from 19% in the same quarter of 2025. Apple was third with 16%, up from 15%, while Samsung and Garmin shared fourth place with 6% each. Omdia said the basic band segment is under pressure, while screenless models are emerging as a growth niche.
The latest figures extend a volatile period at the top of the market. IDC said Huawei led the broader wrist-worn device market in the first quarter of 2026 with 9.5 million shipments and a 20.2% share. Earlier Omdia data also showed Xiaomi and Huawei trading places in a tightly contested market, reflecting a wider shift from low-cost hardware competition towards ecosystem-led buying decisions.
