Intel’s latest leak reveals a fragmented approach to its next-generation desktop and mobile processors, reintroducing the Razor Lake-AX as a specialised high-end graphics and AI acceleration platform, diverging from the main Nova Lake lineage.
Intel’s next desktop and mobile processor families appear to be splitting into distinct design tracks, with a new leak suggesting that Razor Lake will not be a simple continuation of Nova Lake. According to reports from IXBT News and TweakTown, the mainstream desktop and notebook chips are expected to move to Griffin Cove and Golden Eagle for performance and efficiency cores, while a separate Razor Lake-AX line would retain the older Coyote Cove and Arctic Wolf combination used by Nova Lake.
That AX branch matters because it is being described as an APU class aimed at integrated graphics performance rather than raw CPU throughput. IXBT News says these chips are effectively direct rivals to AMD’s Ryzen AI Max, which places them in the high-end mobile and compact system segment where graphics and AI acceleration are more important than conventional desktop-style scaling.
The revised naming also suggests a change in Intel’s product planning. Earlier reporting had pointed to a Nova Lake-AX family, but later leaks said that Intel had dropped that idea. The new information indicates that Razor Lake-AX is in fact the same cancelled concept revived under a different banner, which would explain why it keeps the Nova Lake-era core architecture rather than adopting the newer design used elsewhere in the Razor Lake range.
On the graphics side, the AX parts are said to use Xe3P, with early figures pointing to as many as 32 GPU cores. That would be a substantial step up on the Arc B390, which has 12 Xe3 cores, although the exact final specification remains unconfirmed. TweakTown’s reporting on Nova Lake also notes support for up to 52 cores, a new LGA 1954 socket and next-generation Xe3 graphics, underlining how Intel’s forthcoming client roadmap is now appearing more fragmented across performance tiers and product categories.
