Redmi sparks naming controversy with potential jump to K200 series

Redmi hints at skipping the K110 name in favour of a direct move to the K200 series, signalling a possible generational reset amidst ambitious flagship hardware plans.

Redmi may be preparing to break with the expected naming pattern for its next flagship phones. In a Weibo reply cited by Gadgets360, Redmi product manager Mia Xinxin suggested that “K110 feels a bit strange”, a comment that has fuelled speculation that the company could jump straight to a Redmi K200 series rather than settle on K110. The discussion comes as Redmi prepares to unveil its next K-series phones in China and as the brand continues to push more ambitious hardware across the line. 

The naming debate matters because Redmi’s recent top-end models have already shown how aggressively the company is positioning its premium sub-brand. Reports from GizChina, Notebookcheck and Gadgets360 say the Redmi K90 Pro Max arrived with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, a 7,560mAh silicon-carbon battery, 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, while also adding a 6.9-inch OLED display and a 5x telephoto camera. Android Central noted that Xiaomi used the same Qualcomm platform in its Xiaomi 17 series, underscoring how quickly the new processor is moving through the company’s flagship portfolio. 

Against that backdrop, the early talk around a K200 label suggests Redmi may be signalling a cleaner generational reset after the K100 family. Gadgets360 said the upcoming K100 Pro and K100 Pro Max are due to use Snapdragon chipsets, with the Pro model tipped to include an 8,580mAh battery, 100W wired charging, 50W wireless charging and a 200-megapixel main camera. The Pro Max is expected to go further still, with an even larger 9,070mAh battery, if the current chatter proves accurate. 
