Samsung accelerates foldable production amid soaring global demand and record pre-orders

Samsung Electronics is ramping up production of its latest foldables in South Korea after unprecedented pre-order success and swift stock depletion, signalling a significant acceleration in the global foldable market.

Samsung Electronics has moved to expand production of its latest foldables in South Korea after demand for the Galaxy Z Fold8 series far outpaced expectations, with initial stocks of some models and colours selling out quickly. According to Newsis, more than 70% of domestic pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8 and Flip8 went to the Fold8, prompting a rapid supply response from the company and mobile operators.

The surge has also altered launch logistics. Newsis reported that Samsung has extended the activation deadline for pre-order customers from August 7 to August 31, while keeping the existing “double storage” promotion in place for eligible buyers. That offer still gives customers who complete activation within the extended period a free storage upgrade worth about 250,000 won, depending on model and configuration.

Industry reports suggest the strong response is not confined to Korea. In the US, 9to5Google reported that Samsung had to refresh stock of the popular “Pistachio” Fold8 colour after shipping estimates slipped sharply, while Tom’s Guide and Android Central highlighted aggressive launch promotions from Samsung and carriers such as T-Mobile, including large trade-in discounts and free-device offers tied to eligible plans.

The early demand also fits a broader pattern around Samsung’s 2026 foldable range. Decked Out Magazine said the Fold8, Fold8 Ultra and Flip8 were unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked with the Fold8 Ultra as the new flagship, and Sammobile reported that Samsung’s Korea pre-orders reached 1.44 million units in a week, breaking the company’s domestic record. Sammobile also said Samsung is preparing an August software update for the Fold8 Ultra to improve thermal handling, underscoring that the launch is still being refined even as sales momentum builds.
