Samsung Indonesia reports a surge in pre-orders for its latest Galaxy Z8 series, with a 50% increase over previous models, signalling strong regional demand for foldable smartphones.
Samsung has formally brought its latest foldable phones to Indonesia, widening the Galaxy Z line-up with the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8. In a statement carried by jpnn.com, Samsung Indonesia said the range went on sale on Friday, 14 August, as the company pushes its premium foldable segment further into the mainstream.
The launch comes amid strong early demand. Samsung said pre-orders for the new series rose by more than 30% versus the previous generation, with the company’s mobile business chief in Indonesia, Yadi Prayitno, describing the result as beyond expectations. He said that two weeks after pre-orders opened, orders were running 50% ahead of the prior series and represented Samsung’s highest pre-order volume yet for a foldable line in Indonesia.
Consumer interest appears to be concentrated on the larger book-style model. According to the company, the redesigned Galaxy Z Fold8 has been the main draw for 89% of buyers, helped by what Samsung described as a fresher, more distinctive and more compact form factor. The latest series has also proved popular with younger shoppers across South-East Asia, with teenagers through to people in their 30s making up almost 60% of Galaxy Z8 customers.
The wider regional response suggests foldables are gaining ground beyond a niche audience. Tom’s Guide reported that Samsung recorded more than 1.44 million pre-orders for the Galaxy Z8 line in the first week of availability, up 30% year on year, while nearly half of those orders were for the Fold8 model. PhoneArena and SamMobile also reported unusually strong early demand in India, where Samsung’s latest foldables reached 271,000 pre-orders within 72 hours, including significant uptake outside the largest cities.
Samsung Indonesia is also backing the launch with incentives. Its local promotional page says the pre-order window ran from 22 July to 13 August, with trade-in offers, financing and bundled benefits aimed at encouraging upgrades. That combination of launch timing, pricing support and early demand points to a foldable market that is becoming more competitive, and more commercially significant, in Indonesia and across the region.
