Sony prepares to launch its new Xperia 10 VIII, potentially earlier than previous years, featuring the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip and targeted at mid-range consumers seeking durability, battery life, and compact design.
Sony is preparing to unveil a new Xperia handset on Tuesday, 25 August, in a livestream scheduled for 11am in Japan, which will be 4am CEST on 26 August in Europe. The company has not named the phone, but recent leaks point to the Xperia 10 VIII, and a Geekbench listing suggests it will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip, the same platform found in its predecessor. A separate FCC filing has also indicated that the device has cleared regulatory approval, pointing to a launch in selected overseas markets rather than North America.
If the rumours prove correct, the new model will arrive earlier than usual. Sony launched the Xperia 10 VII in September last year, so an August reveal would bring the next generation forward by several weeks. That fits the pattern of Sony’s mid-range Xperia line, which has generally been aimed at buyers who want modest performance, strong battery life and a compact, lighter body rather than headline-grabbing specifications.
Sony’s recent Xperia 10 VI shows what the series is built around. In press material for that model, the company emphasised up to two days of battery life, a lightweight design that is easier to use one-handed, a durable display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, and extras such as the Video Creator app and improved front stereo speakers. SoftBank’s release for the same phone also highlighted Sony’s imaging and audio features, while Sony’s support pages list the Xperia 10 VI for Android 14, 15 and 16, underscoring the company’s multi-year software support approach.
