Celebrating its 15th anniversary, Xiaomi unveils a renewed emphasis on AI and a comprehensive software overhaul with the upcoming Beta release of HyperOS 4, signalling a strategic shift towards deeper software integration.
Xiaomi is marking 15 years since its first smartphone with a renewed focus on artificial intelligence and a major software refresh across its device ecosystem. The anniversary falls on 16 August 2026, the date on which the company entered the handset market with the original Xiaomi Phone, according to reporting cited by TugaTech and ITHome.
Lu Weibing, president of Xiaomi Group, used the occasion to revisit the company’s early positioning around enthusiasts and contrast it with a broader ambition to make advanced technology more widely available. The message also underlines how Xiaomi now sees software as a central part of its hardware strategy, rather than a supporting layer.
That shift is most visible in HyperOS 4, which is moving into beta testing. Xiaomi has already started distributing the first test build to a limited set of recent devices, including the Xiaomi 17 family, selected REDMI K90 models and the Xiaomi Pad 8 range, while broader rollout is expected to follow later in the year.
Industry reports suggest HyperOS 4 is being treated as a substantial platform update rather than a routine annual refresh. Leaks and analyst commentary point to a redesigned interface, deeper contextual AI features, stronger privacy and security controls, and a more modern system architecture. Some reports also say the software has been rebuilt around Rust and Flutter, with claims of better smoothness, lower memory use and improved background app handling.
Xiaomi’s software timetable appears to fit a wider pattern. Reports from June and July indicated that the company was preparing to unveil HyperOS 4 in July or August 2026, with China first and global availability following weeks later. Xiaomi’s beta process typically begins with Mi Pilot testing in China before widening to more users, suggesting the current anniversary build may be the opening stage of a longer release cycle.
