Leaks suggest Xiaomi is planning a delayed and segmented release for its next flagship series, with Pro models arriving ahead of the standard Xiaomi 18, marking a strategic shift from its usual simultaneous unveiling approach.
Xiaomi appears to be preparing a staggered release for its next flagship family, with leaks suggesting the Xiaomi 18 Pro models could arrive first, followed by the standard Xiaomi 18 weeks or even months later. That would mark a departure from the company’s usual approach of unveiling its top-end phones in one launch window and selling the core variants together.
According to reporting from OficinadaNet, the delay being discussed for the base model would place it in December, while the Pro versions could surface at the end of September. The timing would fit closely with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit, due between 22 and 24 September, when the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 is expected to be announced. If the rumours are accurate, Xiaomi could move quickly afterwards, with the Pro handsets potentially appearing on 28 or 29 September.
The broader leak picture suggests Xiaomi is also reworking the shape of the line-up. Gizmochina has reported that the Pro Max model may replace the Ultra variant, while other leaks point to a standard Xiaomi 18 with a 6.4-inch display and Pro models carrying dual 200-megapixel rear cameras. Notebookcheck has said this split-release strategy would mirror Apple’s approach of separating Pro launches from the base model. If confirmed, it would signal a more deliberate attempt to segment demand around the premium tier.
The hardware rumours themselves point to a major update. Across the series, the phones are said to use Qualcomm’s next flagship chip, built by TSMC on a 2nm process, which should improve both performance and power efficiency. Gadgets360 has also reported that the Pro models could bring larger batteries, while Gizmochina says the rear display concept seen on earlier generations may return in an upgraded form for the Pro and Pro Max, potentially with AI-driven functions. Colour options tipped so far include black, white, pink, blue and red, although Xiaomi has not confirmed any of the specifications, launch dates or model names.
