A VPN can appear to be working while web traffic is being blocked somewhere in the tunnel, not on the home line itself. The quickest way to separate those problems is to disconnect the VPN and test a couple of ordinary websites. If they load immediately, the broadband connection is probably healthy and the fault is more likely to lie with the VPN app, its kill switch, DNS handling, or a virtual network adapter. If the connection still fails with the VPN switched off, the issue is outside the VPN and should be treated as a normal WiFi, Ethernet, router or provider problem.
