D-Link launches the F518, a portable 5G hotspot that doubles as a power bank, targeting remote workers and frequent travellers seeking fast, reliable internet on the go with added versatility.
Portable internet is becoming a standard travel accessory, and D-Link’s F518 is aimed squarely at that use case. According to D-Link, the mobile hotspot combines 5G NR and 4G connectivity with Wi-Fi 6, a battery rated at 8,000mAh and support for up to 16 connected devices. It also doubles as a power bank, which gives it a wider role than a typical pocket router.
The hardware is compact rather than tiny, and that extra bulk is the trade-off for the built-in charging function. The unit uses a simple control layout, with power and display buttons on the side, a nano SIM tray, and a USB-C port for charging and reverse charging. D-Link’s documentation says the device includes WPA3 security and a firewall, while the review model also ships with a USB-A-to-USB-C cable and a SIM tool.

The company also says the battery can last for up to 16 hours, although that will fall if the hotspot is also used to charge a phone or tablet. The front display and status lights are designed to make signal strength, connection state and battery level easy to read at a glance.
The overall proposition is straightforward: this is a portable router for people who want quick setup, dependable mobile internet and an emergency charging option in one device. At AU$449.95, it is not a budget purchase, but D-Link positions it as a practical option for remote work, travel and broadband backup. The main compromise is size, which is slightly greater than a hotspot that only needs to manage connectivity. For users who value versatility, that is likely an acceptable trade.
