Nubia launches the Neo 5 Max 5G in Malaysia, a device combining a massive 7.5-inch AMOLED display, gaming triggers, and long-lasting battery, signalling a shift towards specialised entertainment-focused phones in the mid-range segment.
Nubia has brought the Neo 5 Max 5G to Malaysia as an unusually ambitious gaming phone, and its pitch is clear: it is built less like a conventional handset and more like a compact entertainment device. According to local launch coverage, the model is positioned as a “4-in-1” PadPhone, combining a tablet-like display, gaming-oriented controls, an e-reader mode and day-to-day phone use. The early-bird price for the 8GB+256GB variant is RM1,299, down from the RM1,399 recommended retail price, with the promotion running from 17 August to 16 September 2026.
The defining feature is the 7.5-inch 1.5K AMOLED panel, which gives the Neo 5 Max 5G a footprint well beyond the normal mid-range phone class. GadgetMTech reports a 120Hz refresh rate, up to 1,000 nits of peak brightness, True DC dimming and hardware-level blue-light reduction, while Nubia says the 18.7:9 aspect ratio was shaped by gaming eye-tracking research to improve visibility in competitive titles. Nubia has paired the display with physical Neo Triggers 5.0 shoulder buttons, which remain uncommon in mainstream smartphones. The launch materials say these controls are designed to reduce reliance on on-screen inputs and improve responsiveness during fast-paced gaming. The brand has also added a large vapour chamber cooling system, with Malaysian coverage describing a 30,000mm² thermal setup aimed at limiting heat build-up during long sessions. That emphasis on sustained performance matters because the device is built around a MediaTek Dimensity 7100 chip, a more modest processor than some direct rivals, so Nubia is leaning on ergonomics and controls rather than raw benchmark leadership.
Battery life is another major part of the proposition. Malaysian launch reporting points to a 7,100mAh dual-cell battery, which should suit long play times and extended media use, though charging figures vary across regional coverage. For Malaysia, the device is being marketed with 33W charging, while overseas listings have mentioned faster charging support. The phone also arrives in Shadow Black and Cyber Silver, with an Eagle Eye RGB lighting effect on the rear. Availability is broader than a typical niche gaming product, with sales through Shopee, Lazada, Nubia brand stores and selected retailers.
