OpenAI has extended scheduled task capabilities to free ChatGPT accounts, added sharing and web action features, and launched an Admin plugin for enterprise management, reshaping automation possibilities across tiers.
OpenAI has widened access to ChatGPT’s scheduled tasks, extending the feature to free accounts as part of a broader update to the tool first unveiled in June. According to MacMagazine, the change means users on no-cost plans can now set up tasks in advance rather than relying solely on manual prompts, bringing the feature closer to a lightweight automation layer inside ChatGPT.
The company has also added sharing, allowing a scheduled task to be passed to other users. OpenAI’s help documentation says scheduled tasks can be created and managed from a dedicated page in the ChatGPT sidebar across web, mobile and desktop apps, with support for one-off and recurring jobs, improved editing flows and notifications when a meaningful change is detected.
Another addition is event-driven web actions, which let ChatGPT watch for specific changes on a page and then act. MacMagazine reports that examples include tracking when a new item appears on a site or responding to new messages in Gmail or Slack. That capability is limited to paid tiers, including Go, Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise, which preserves the more advanced automation functions for higher-value subscriptions.
OpenAI has also introduced an Admin plugin for ChatGPT Work and Codex. The company says it lets workspace administrators manage settings, usage and access through conversation rather than switching between tools or writing prompts. It can be used to automate repetitive checks and larger-scale requests, and it integrates with third-party services such as Slack and Microsoft Teams. OpenAI says its own IT team used the system to handle internal support work, cutting around 40% of ticket volume through automated workflows.
