Apple is preparing a September showcase that could mark a turning point for the company, with reports pointing to its first foldable iPhone and the first major product event under incoming chief executive John Ternus. According to Axios, Apple has scheduled the presentation for 9 September at 10am Pacific time at the Steve Jobs Theatre in Apple Park. The timing follows the company’s long-standing pattern of early-autumn iPhone launches, but this year carries added weight because the event is expected to signal the start of a new leadership era.
Tim Cook is due to step down as chief executive on 1 September, with Ternus, Apple’s hardware engineering chief, taking over and Cook moving into the role of executive chairman. MacRumors has reported that Cook will remain involved in some areas of the business, including policy engagement, as Apple hands operational control to a leader with deep hardware experience. Ternus joined Apple in 2001 and has played a central role in the development of major product lines, including the iPhone, iPad, Mac and AirPods.
The flagship announcement is expected to be a foldable iPhone, which Tom’s Guide says could be marketed as the iPhone Ultra. The site reports that the device may feature a 7.8-inch display, Apple’s A20 Pro chip and dual 48-megapixel rear cameras, but may also carry a price as high as $2,500, which would place it firmly at the top end of the market. If Apple does unveil such a device, it would be its boldest response yet to rivals that have already spent years refining foldable hardware.
Tom’s Guide also says the September event is likely to include the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, both expected to use the A20 Pro chip and improved cameras, while the standard iPhone 18 may be delayed until next spring. Other products rumoured for the same event include Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4, a refreshed Apple TV 4K and a new HomePod mini, though some devices may be held back until later. The same reporting suggests camera-equipped AirPods and several other long-rumoured hardware updates are unlikely to appear next month, underlining that Apple’s autumn line-up may be ambitious, but still selective.
