Poco unveils the X8 5G, a mid-range smartphone featuring an industry-leading IP68-rated dust and water resistance, a massive 8,340mAh battery, and a high-refresh-rate AMOLED display, challenging the boundaries of durability and battery longevity in its price segment.
Poco has added the X8 5G to its global smartphone line-up, pitching it as a mid-range device that leans heavily on display quality, battery life and durability. According to Poco’s global product page, the phone uses a 6.83-inch AMOLED panel with 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, and it is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 platform. The same listing says the handset is aimed at long-distance use, with an 8,340mAh silicon-carbon battery and 67W HyperCharge support.
The company is offering the phone in Black, Orange and White, with three memory options globally: 6GB plus 128GB, 8GB plus 256GB and 12GB plus 256GB. Gadgets 360 reported indicative pricing of $269, $299 and $349 respectively, although Poco has not yet confirmed global availability. In India, the model is due to arrive on September 4 with a larger 9,000mAh battery, suggesting a regional split in hardware.
Poco is also placing unusual emphasis on physical protection. The handset carries IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K certifications, which cover resistance to dust, immersion and high-pressure, high-temperature water exposure. The company says the battery should retain at least 80% of its capacity after 1,600 charging cycles, a claim that underlines its focus on longevity rather than headline charging speed alone.
The rest of the specification sheet is broadly in line with other recent Xiaomi-owned releases. Poco lists up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage, plus Android 16 with HyperOS 3. The rear camera arrangement is led by a 50-megapixel main sensor with optical and electronic stabilisation, alongside a 2-megapixel depth sensor, while the front camera is 16 megapixels. Connectivity includes 5G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC and USB Type-C, with an in-display fingerprint reader and Xiaomi Offline Communication support also included. The phone measures 163.45mm by 78.27mm by 8.6mm and weighs 223g.
