Homey has introduced Portal, a compact, wall- or desk-mounted controller with a tactile dial and live room data, designed to provide physical access to smart home functions without the need for a smartphone.
Homey has unveiled Portal, a compact wall- or desk-mounted controller aimed at households that want physical access to smart home functions without reaching for a phone. The device pairs a 2.8-inch round touchscreen with a stainless-steel rotary ring, giving users a more tactile way to manage connected equipment such as lights, speakers, thermostats and other automations.
According to Homey, the Portal is designed to sit inside the company’s existing ecosystem rather than replace it. It works with Homey Cloud, Homey Pro, Homey Pro mini and Homey Self-Hosted Server, and is intended as a shared room controller for the home. Matter Home reported that it is not a standalone Matter panel, but a controller built to integrate with an existing Homey setup.
The interface is meant to make routine tasks simpler. Users can tap the screen to switch devices on or off, then turn the dial to adjust brightness, volume or temperature. Homey says the display can also surface live room temperature and humidity, speaker playback details and energy data when paired with a Homey Energy Dongle or another supported tracker. The company also highlights Flow-based alerts for tasks such as plant reminders or doorbell snapshots.
Homey says the Portal supports more than 70,000 devices from over 2,000 brands, reflecting the scale of its broader platform. Notebookcheck noted that the unit can be placed on a stand or fixed to a wall, while German outlet Appgefahren reported USB-C power and a design meant to act as a central point of control. The device is available to pre-order at $249 in the US and €249 in Europe, with the price set to rise to $299 after the initial batch sells out. Homey says shipping should begin before the end of 2026, and each unit includes both a desk stand and a wall mount.
