Apple’s revamped Siri AI set to transform user experience while prioritising privacy

Apple announces a major overhaul of its long-troubled voice assistant, integrating AI and machine learning across its ecosystem to deliver more natural, context-aware interactions while emphasising privacy and on-device processing.

Apple’s long-troubled voice assistant is getting a major overhaul, and the change is broader than a simple interface refresh. The company says Siri AI is built into iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 and visionOS 27, with tighter links to Apple Intelligence, more context-aware replies and deeper use of personal data where appropriate. Apple has also framed it as a more capable assistant for tasks inside apps, web browsing and image work, while still presenting much of the processing as device-led.

For years, Siri lagged behind rivals in both reliability and ambition. The new version is meant to close that gap by combining machine learning with large language models, allowing it to answer more specific questions, use information from the screen and carry on a more natural back-and-forth exchange. Apple says the assistant can also draw on data from across the user’s device to produce more useful results, such as recalling details from messages, photos, calendar entries or other private content when a request is relevant.

Apple has also changed how users interact with Siri. Instead of the older full-screen glow, the assistant now appears as an orb at the top of the display, with a search field that can be used for either queries or dictation. MacRumors reported that Apple has also introduced a dedicated Siri app, allowing conversation history to sync across devices through iCloud and giving users a more chat-like experience in text or voice.

Apple is pitching privacy as a central constraint rather than an afterthought. The company says as much processing as possible happens on-device, while more demanding requests can be handled through Private Cloud Compute. Apple says that system uses infrastructure it controls and that personal data is not stored or made accessible to Apple or others. That promise will matter because the assistant’s new abilities depend more heavily on deeper access to personal context than previous versions of Siri.

Availability is still uneven. Apple says the new Siri AI is in developer testing and will arrive first for supported devices set to English, with wider language support to follow. MacRumors said the feature will work on iPhones that support Apple Intelligence, including the iPhone 15 Pro and later models. In the European Union, however, Apple has said Siri AI will not ship with iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 because of the Digital Markets Act, although it will be available on macOS 27 and visionOS 27 there for now.
