Rithum’s new mobile app enhances local control and maintains core functionality for smart heating systems

Rithum introduces a new mobile layer with the Rithum Home app and My Rithum portal, enabling homeowners to manage heating zones locally through smartphones without relying on cloud scheduling, reinforcing local control and installer support.

Rithum has added a mobile layer to its heating and home-control platform, launching the Rithum Home app for iOS and Android alongside a new customer portal called My Rithum. The software extends control of heating, cooling and hot water to a phone, while keeping the core control logic inside the existing Switch hardware rather than pushing scheduling into the cloud.

The app is designed to mirror the interface already used on the Rithum Stat wall controller. Each zone can be managed separately, with its own target temperature and seven-day timetable, so a homeowner can alter one room without affecting the rest of the property. Modes such as Home, Away and Holiday are also included, and Rithum says those modes can behave differently from one zone to another.

That local-first approach is important. According to Rithum and a separate launch report, schedules continue to run on the Switch device itself, which means routine heating control should remain available even if the internet connection drops. The company said the app was developed after installers said customers increasingly expect smartphone control as a standard feature, and it argues that no extra hardware is needed because the experience matches the wall unit already in place.

“Every client asks for an app, and until now the honest answer was either no or a second system alongside the one you have just installed,” said Ryan Ovens, founder and chief executive of Rithum. He added: “This is the Rithum Switch in your pocket, and it is included. The room still runs from the wall, as it always has – the app is simply for the times you are not standing in front of it.”

My Rithum is aimed at the handover and support stage after installation. Rithum says installers can invite clients into the platform, where homeowners can manage their own system while the installer retains an ongoing relationship with the installation. The portal also adds backup and restore functions, which can be used to copy a configuration to the same unit or to a replacement device, reducing the work involved in warranty swaps. Saved settings can also be reused as templates for other rooms.

Rithum says the basic client layer is free for device status, remote restart and over-the-air firmware updates, while cloud-based functions such as configuration backup, remote changes, extended warranty and upgrade credit sit behind a paid subscription charged per Switch. The company says the standard warranty can be extended to four years, with an enhanced option of up to five. The launch also fits with Rithum’s broader pitch: a wall touchscreen intended to replace several in-home controls, with support for lighting, heating, intercoms, cameras, audio and blinds, and with each unit carrying its own processor so no separate hub is required.
