The 2026 ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 refresh introduces marginal performance gains, improved battery life, and brighter OLED display, but at a higher price point amid cooling and design enhancements.
ASUS has kept the ROG Zephyrus G16 firmly in premium territory with its 2026 refresh, preserving the slim aluminium chassis, strong keyboard and high-end audio that have helped define the line. According to Notebookcheck’s test verdict and ASUS’s own product details, the 16-inch machine remains a portable gaming laptop rather than a bulkier desktop replacement, with a 2.5K OLED panel running at 240Hz and a thin 0.70-inch profile.
The main change is under the bonnet. ASUS has moved to Intel’s Panther Lake platform, which brings only a modest gain in raw CPU performance but a clearer improvement in power efficiency. That translates into better battery life in everyday use, while the revised cooling system allows the GeForce RTX 5080 to run at up to 135 watts, rather than the 120-watt limit used previously. Notebookcheck says that increase gives the new model a practical boost in gaming performance even though the graphics chip itself is unchanged.
The display has also been refined. ASUS says the OLED panel can now reach 1,100 nits peak brightness, which should help HDR material look more convincing, and the higher brightness is echoed in independent reviews of the 2026 model. The cooling hardware, meanwhile, uses a vapour chamber and tri-fan design, which supports the higher GPU power draw but also makes the laptop slightly louder under load, according to Notebookcheck and other recent reviews.
The most obvious weakness is price. Notebookcheck reports that the RTX 5080 configuration costs 5,400 euros, higher than the previous generation despite that model having shipped with the faster RTX 5090 and a lower price tag. Memory remains soldered, with up to 64GB available but no upgrade path after purchase. ASUS does offer a three-year international warranty, which softens the blow somewhat, but the 2026 Zephyrus G16 is still a very expensive buy even by flagship gaming laptop standards.
