For buyers comparing Wi-Fi mesh systems, the clearest signal of long-term value is not a marketing promise of future support, but a documented record of how a company has handled software after launch. Public release notes show whether a manufacturer fixes faults quickly, patches security issues and improves performance once products are already in homes. In practice, that history is often more useful than a broad assurance that updates will continue.
eero is one of the stronger examples. Its release notes show a steady cadence of firmware updates, including eeroOS 7.17.1 on 11 September 2026, which addressed intermittent disconnects on Wi-Fi 7 networks, fixed a HomeKit Secure Router issue and added performance and stability improvements. Earlier August releases also added protection against the NatJack router vulnerability. eero says new software typically reaches customer networks within a few weeks of public release, which gives buyers a clearer sense of how quickly security and reliability fixes are delivered.
Google offers a similar trail for Nest WiFi hardware, although its update record is less uniform across models. Google WiFi and Nest WiFi also received security and stability updates in April 2026, and the company says automatic updates are part of the system, with the Google Home app showing the current software version. That makes it easier for users to verify whether a device is still actively maintained.
What matters most for shoppers is the pattern rather than a single patch. A product with a visible release archive gives a better view of how a manufacturer handles connectivity bugs, router vulnerabilities and ongoing optimisation after sale. Independent reviews of Nest Wifi Pro have also noted earlier firmware changes aimed at roaming, switching between access points and Thread coverage, while one guide cites Google’s minimum security-update commitment through 27 October 2027. For anyone buying mesh hardware, that combination of update history, published support windows and transparent version tracking is a more reliable guide than a vague promise of continued care.
