Fujifilm has launched the Instax Pal 2, an upgraded follow-up to its compact digital camera, featuring a more conventional mini camera shape, a viewfinder, increased storage, and advanced creative modes to compete more effectively against rivals like Kodak’s Charmera.
Fujifilm has unveiled the Instax Pal 2, a redesigned follow-up to its ultra-compact digital camera from 2023, as it looks to sharpen its appeal against Kodak’s Charmera. The new model moves away from the earlier rounded look and adopts a more traditional mini camera shape, complete with an optical viewfinder and a 1-inch LCD screen for reviewing images and changing settings.
The company says the Pal 2 keeps the Instax concept focused on portability and instant-print workflows, while expanding the creative tools around it. It offers five filter themes and supports printing to Instax Mini, Square or Wide film formats. A new Animation mode captures 10 consecutive frames and turns them into a flipbook-style sequence, while Fujifilm says the camera now provides 30 effects across its filter themes.
Under the design changes, Fujifilm has also upgraded the imaging hardware. The Pal 2 uses a 10.7-megapixel sensor measuring 1/3.06in, paired with a 28mm equivalent f/2.2 lens. Internal storage has been doubled to 100 photos. That puts it ahead of the original Pal in capacity and gives it a clearer technical step up, even if the device still depends on Instax printers and companion software for the full experience.
The original Instax Pal won praise for being fun, highly portable and easy to carry, but reviewers also noted its reliance on other Instax products and its limited camera-first functionality. The Pal 2 appears to address some of those criticisms with a real viewfinder, a screen and more on-device control. In the US, Fujifilm has set the price at $170, or around Php11,000, positioning it as a premium niche product rather than a mass-market instant camera.
